Show & Tell 7: Bees & Barrels & The Bard by Abovegroup Ogilvy

Why not take a time out from pre-election political posturing at our next Show & Tell this coming Friday? In the mix for this instalment we feature:

Bede Rajahram
Beekeepers are fanatical and we’d like to know what’s the hook. Bede, for example, started beekeeping in 1979 as a hobby and has loved it ever since. For the past three years it has been a full-time career for him, along with being the vice-president of the Trinidad and Tobago Bee Keepers Association.

So what makes bees buzz, and what’s the sweetest way to get honey? We’re looking forward to Bede (and his bees) sharing their passion with us.

Muhammad The Poet
We welcome Muhammad Abdul Quddus Muwakil, 26yrs old, and master of the spoken word. Muhammad believes simply that it is the responsibility of every Caribbean citizen to define and build identity as a source of pride for our people at home and abroad. His work spans self-evaluation, revolution, and questioning of the status quo. His performances are interactive and electrifing and we’re really looking forward to him sharing his lyrics.

Stephen Bowen & John Georges
Coopering (barrel-making without joints or glues) is an ancient tradition that is rarely practiced nowadays - these talented craftsmen are an exception to this trend. Stephen is a cooper of over 13 years vintage, while John (another Angostura man) is an expert in the processes of fermentation, distillation and aging and works with the Coopers to ensure that his rum is well secured in the casks they make.

Look out for a live demonstration of this craft, and hopefully a sampling of what comes out of the barrels!
