The Directors
We are a diverse team of over 60 people, with skills ranging from media planning to design to coding web applications. We are locally based with an international outlook, and attract people of various nationalities and backgrounds. Abovegroup Ogilvy people are hard-workers, (in)famously hard-players, optimistic about the future and love what they do.
Anthony Inglefield (Managing Director)
Tony kicked off his career in advertising in 2003 and has been busy ever since. At the helm of IOM, Tony doubled revenues in 4 years, enhanced the Ogilvy network and set up a regional network of associates. He is also on the board and treasurer of the AAATT, on the board of BH Rose and The Shelter for Battered Women and Children. In a past life, Tony was a director at M&M Insurance Services following a long stint in that industry.
During the rare times that he isn’t working, Tony can be found relaxing at home with his wonderful wife, cantankerous dog, and a good glass of wine.
Alex Smailes (Director)
It was one too many bullets whizzing by while on assignment in Kosovo that convinced Alex that it was time to move on from being a photojournalist. From 1996, he had been working in the Middle East, the South Pacific, South Asia, the Caucasus and South America covering environmental, social and political conflicts. His work during that time has been recognised by Amnesty International and Colours magazine, and he has worked for the BBC, Geographic Magazine, IRC, Corbis and Reuters.
Alex moved to Trinidad in 2002 to work on his first book, Trinidad and Tobago (MacMillan, 2004). He became a director of Abovegroup in 2005 and manages a broad portfolio of creative and operations. Alex continues to shoot, and is currently working on a personal project of the effects of urban gangs on Morvant families as well as a film about Trinidad’s Mic Men with Barcelona-based filmmaker Miquel Galofré.
When not at the studio or out on a shoot, Alex is a big traveller (mainly to the wine-producing regions of the world). He’s also a mean chef.
Russ Jarman Price (Executive Director)
Russ co-founded Still Price Court, which remains the fastest growing advertising agency ever, servicing global clients like Unilever, Coca Cola and IBM. He also co-founded Initiative Media - still one of the largest media companies in the world. During this time he also co-founded Tony Kaye’s first production company - their first commercial won the coveted Lion D’or at Cannes Lions.
Russ sold the advertising agency and then switched industry to become Creative Director of Winchester Entertainment, during which time he wrote and produced several long running international TV series and worked with Rolling Stone Bill Wyman on an award-winning documentary series on the history of the Blues. During this time Russ was also Non-Executive Chairman of top-ten digital agency DNA. Russ was a judge at the 2007 Emmys and has spoken at many conferences and events, including the Cannes Film Festival and MipTV.
Recruited back into Advertising by WPP, Russ was Creative Partner for the Ogilvy Group and in charge of the Branded Entertainment Division.
He moved to Grenada in 2010 to enjoy the spoils of his career. Ten minutes later, he was back at it, becoming a director at IOM. Russ now splits his time between Grenada and Trinidad.
Gareth Jenkins (Director)
A mix of Trinidadian and English parentage, Gareth was born in Trinidad and moved to the UK at the age of 17. As a national scholarship winner, the plan was to continue in the well established line of sciences but he instead made an abrupt turn to Politics at university. This was followed by further education in Development Studies, which then led to a stint at investment bank JP Morgan in London (yeah, we’re confused as well). After living and working in Barbados, he returned to London to head up New Media at hyper-trendy publisher Swinstead Publishing, during which time he won several industry awards.
Gareth returned to Trinidad in 2001 and set up Above, the precursor to Abovegroup. Since then, the company has grown dramatically, adding services, clients and staff, while holding true to its core values of creativity, quality, honesty and social responsibility.
He travels frequently between Trinidad and the South of France, where his family currently resides, and is usually at work, on a plane, or climbing through the forest looking for new surf spots.
